The
atmosphere of Ram Bhavan wants to remain faithful to the simple comforts of an Indian home
with a splash of colour. Walls are painted in the colors of the ancient city: a cooling
forest green facing the court; peacock blues in the bedrooms; Annapurna rose in the
kitchen.
Furniture is colonial Teak or cane.
The top three floors have approximately three bedrooms, a sitting area, dining room,
kitchen and one-and-a-half bathrooms.
The ground floor has a large sitting area and offices.
The roof terrace has a study room with spectacular views.
Bedrooms are set with a bed, a desk, chair, fan, mosquito net and computer outlet.
Rooms in high season cost from € 4 to € 10 per day, including half board
(€ 1 a day for additional guests sharing
the same room). In low season rates are
approximately 20% lower. Special prices can be obtained by groups
renting entire floors. Special prices can be obtained by long term
guests.
When
renovating Ram Bhavan, the Kautilya Society had to choose between quantity and quality,
between creating many guest rooms or preserving an authentic family atmosphere. We chose
the latter, which means the few rooms we have cost more than the average guest house in
Varanasi, but Ram Bhavan guests appreciate our decision.
While
individual rooms are available for students at special rates for long-term stays, the
house lends itself very well to be rented by small groups per floor, or by a larger group
that wants to have the entire house at its disposition for a retreat or study seminar.
Ram Bhavan
is leased to the Kautilya Society, a non-profit organization registered in Uttar Pradesh
for the promotion of intercultural dialogue.
By Indian law it is necessary for all residing guests to become members of the
Society; annual membership is 6 Euros; life membership
is 20 Euros.
